Sea, race and sun!
The 3rd round of the Enduro World Series took place in the volcanic island of Madeira in the the middle of Atlantic ocean. Expecting some sun, we were all excited to discover this new place, as we’ve never been before ! Jérôme and the team arrived in the little village of Machico, ready to ride for 4 days in a row (2 days of practice and 2 days of racing).
The summit of the track reaches almost 1500 meters elevation and the misty fog is always stocked at the top creating a misty atmosphere. That is why the tracks up there never really dry and the riders have to deal with slippery and muddy terrain! Fortunately the sun show out when the riders are going down, which makes tires choice a strategic decision!
Jérôme ends up 10th!
Race day 1 was really demanding with 4 stages extremely physical (stage 1) and really rocky and technical (stage 3). After a real good start where Jérôme was 8th then 6th, he got a flat out in the long stage 3. He losts some precious times (around 30 seconds) but finally managed to finish the day in top 20! Race is not over, Sunday will be another 5 stages day!
On Sunday the terrain was more on dirty and rooty which fit more with Jérôme’s style of riding. He wanted to catch up some times and managed to have a consistent fast day. What a reward to give it all: he finally finished 10th!
Jérôme : « I enjoyed racing , got plenty of positive feedbacks from the race and the way I rode! I am real happy to end up in the top 10 even though I could have reach the top 5 without a mechanical, but that is part of the race and it a great experience to show that race is not over until the last stage »
