Win for Clementz in EWS#1 Crankworx Rotorua

A way to start the season!

The 1st Enduro World Series takes place in Rotorua (New Zealand) for the Crankworx. A long week of riding was on schedule for the racers with 3 days of practice and one day of race: 7 stages and 1800 meters elevation by bike will put the riders until their limits.

Jérôme had been putting in a lot of effort to find again his high level after his injury of last year. His preparation during winter was based on a strong fitness work to be ready for the first big race.

Thanks to all the partners, Jérôme got everything ready to start the season in the best conditions : bikes and kit were ready to rock!

It was a real challenge to race in the darkest forest of Rotorua: tracks were full of roots, mud and slippery trails but Jérôme liked them. As the top riders were starting last, some sections of the stages were completely different from the practice! Although Jérôme got the skills to read the terrain, he has to adjust his riding style to find the good balance in between speed and avoiding crashes.

Jérôme didn’t want to know the result after the different stages as he would like to keep concentrate on his own pace and not being affecting mentally. The key was to ride smooth and hold back! Jérôme was consistent, he won 3 of the 7 stages and has only one crash on the 5th one.

The last stage under the Skyline gondola was the most stressful, by waiting the run of everybody. But Jérôme confirms his ability to be strong in this situation and knows how to win enduro races.

The fight was hard until the end, and the gap between the top 5 was tight. Florian Nicolaï was the closest rider from Jérôme before the last stage where he got a flat. Finally, Jérôme took the win in front of Fabien Barel (+12′) and the local Wyn Masters (+15′) got 3rd.

The bike was really dialled and Jérôme felt good on it! For sure, that’s helped in the quest of success.

We are happy start the season with his victory, it’s a good omen for 2015!

Pauline also raced, she said: « The 1st round of the Enduro World Series in Rotorua is on our memory book! It was a really tough race with 80 women in the starting list, 7 stages and 1800 meters elevation by bike. I was stoked to be part of the race and I am glad to finish thanks to good friends and all the cheering which made my day easier! I finished 14th but the result doesn’t really matter compared to the moments we shared with all these amazing girls who keep the spirit of enduro! »
